| Old Board 2006 |
|
For a number of years a group of friendly, international people have been active on the SIRAP Board. We meet approximately 8 times per year to review SIRAP activities and to plan new ones. Board work does not involve a major time committment. Board members come from an enormous variety of different geographical, cultural and educational backgrounds and professions. One thing that we have in common is that we try to improve the lives of international researchers, their friends, families and many others living in the Stockholm area. Board members work voluntarily because they share a common vision and in many cases have become firm friends. See below for a report from the last Board 'retreat' where we planned coming activities. Represent your country, your university, your workplace or your clan by joining us on the SIRAP Board. We look forward to welcoming you! April 2006) Once upon a time there was a beautiful young maiden who lived on a small island in the Tjust archipelago many miles South of Stockholm. She grew up and traveled the world and the seven seas, and eventually started working at Stockholm Akademiska Forum. With her charm and her smile she has lured many other people into the SIRAP board, and they all became good friends. And this bunch of friends consisting of an American (Bruce), two Swedes (Anna and Sofie), a Scotsman ("Gamla" Stan), a Welshman (Gareth), a Polish lady (Marta), a German (Martin) and a tame rabbit named Pontus embarked on a sunny afternoon to visit the small island. They traveled south through various "*köpings" until they came to Loftahammar. There, a boat was waiting in the sunset to ferry them over to the magic island. The travelers settled into small wooden houses and were soon treated to a fine supper. The magic continued on Saturday with beautiful warm and sunny weather on this peaceful and quiet day which was only interrupted by a wealth of Scottish jokes and the laughter of the group. The fantastic fish soup for lunch was highly appreciated by everybody. Well, almost everybody. The group's story teller was brought up exclusively on fish soup, and has therefore promised himself never to eat fish soup again. Two more board members (Aimee and Cristian) joined the joyful group on Saturday night, just in time for a first class barbecue and a sauna party. Sunday morning on the magic island was as merry as ever. The birds were singing, and it was truely unbelievable that the group was bound to leave this paradise soon. A board meeting reminded them that there still exists life outside this secluded world. A wonderful weekend came to a close when the boat returned our friends to mainland Sweden. Thousand thanks to Sofie for a glimpse of the Björkö magic. Martin Volk |
